Blueprint for Maryland's Future & Clymb

The College and Career Readiness Pillar focuses on preparing all students for success in college and the workforce by ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to complete entry-level credit-bearing college courses and work in high-wage and high-demand industries.

Key Objectives

College & Career Standard and Assessment

MSDE is to build a new College and Career Ready standard that will be based on empirical review of high school curriculum and post-secondary expectations and ensure that all students are College and Career Ready by the end of their 10th grade year.

Ensure Students are on Track to Meet CCR

There will be implementation of a student tracker system to ensure all students are on track for graduation and possess skills and tools required for college or the workforce. Additionally, provide supplemental services related to academic achievement, pandemic related learning loss, or CCR to those students with identified need.

Implementation of CCR Pathways

Provision of individualized programs for students to ensure they graduate 11th and 12th grade CCR, provide enrichment programs for talented students as well as offering of CTE credentials and college credits in 11th and 12th grade of high school.

Expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs and High Quality Career Counseling

Ensure that every middle and high school student has equitable access to high-quality college and career counseling and help them navigate among the available and emerging CTE opportunities.

Why is this important?

Currently, in Maryland, schools are facing challenges in preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be successful after school as they enter college and the workforce. Despite high academic credentials, students today are required to have employability skills in order to be successful in the workforce. It is essential to ensure that all students, regardless of family income, race, ethnicity, and/or ability shall have equitable access to new curricula and college and career pathways.

Clymb & Pillar 3

How can Clymb help schools to achieve objectives of Pillar 3 the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future?

Employers today are not just looking for employees with strong academic credentials, but also those with a range of soft skills or employability skills. These include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, adaptability, and leadership. It is important to recognize that one’s educational achievement depends on more than schooling. Clymb's SEL resources help students develop these skills and prepare them for the workforce.
